How To Apply
For Housing

The Star City Housing Authority (SCHA) is currently accepting Public Housing and Section 8 (HCV) waiting list pre-applications for families and senior/disabled households. The SCHA offers one Public Housing community with 56 units for families and senior/disabled households, ranging in size from studios to 3 bedrooms and 55 Housing Choice Vouchers.

Please note: This waiting list has preferences. This means that applicants who qualify for these preferences will receive assistance before applicants who do not. Because of there preferences, it is likely applicants who do qualify will have a long wait to receive assistance, or will not receive assistance from this office.

You MUST have ALL of this information to apply for assistance, any missing information will result in your application not being accepted.

Items to bring in order to apply for Housing Assistance:

(Must be originals, photo copies not accepted)

    • State issued photo ID/DL - for all household members 18 years and up
    • Birth certificate - for all household members
    • Social Security Card
    • Verification of income - for all household members
    • Income includes, but is not limited to TEA, child support, SSI, Social Security and/or wages. Note: If you receive SSI or Social Security income please bring a current letter of benefits received (from social security administration) with you as verification of your income.


Here Are The Two Ways You Can Apply:

1) Request to have a pre-application mailed to you by calling : (870) 628-4500 from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm CT, Monday-Friday.

2) Visit the SCHA office to pick up a pre-application, located at 301 E Joslyn Avenue, Star City, AR 71667, from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday.


After Submitting
YOUR APPLICATION

Once the pre-application has been completed, it can be mailed or hand delivered to the address listed above.

Be sure to include these documents the pre-application: Social Security Cards and birth certificates for all household members, proof of all income, and photo IDs for all adult household members.

The SCHA does have a preference for: Elderly and disabled. Important note: Applicants will receive a confirmation number when either applying, or being placed on the waiting list, depending on housing authority policy. It is important to keep that number in a safe, easy to access place. It will be needed any time when referencing your pre-application with the housing authority.

If any of your application information changes from the time you submitted the original pre-application (such as contact information, income, and household members), inform the housing authority immediately. In the case that the office sends a notice that does not get returned, or if application information is out of date, your name may be terminated from the waiting list.

What Happens After Applying to a Public Waiting List?


1) Wait for the housing office to process applications.

2) Confirm your waiting list status.

3) Estimate your wait time.

4) Stay in contact with the housing office.

5) Attend final in-person eligibility interview.

6) Move Into Offered Unit.
